FOOD PLOTS
Want to bag your dove limit and have a chance at a huge buck? Food plots are a great way to attract wildlife, especially dove and deer to your land. Abbott’s has the region’s largest selection of food plot seed by the bag or by the pound and is the creator of the famous Bucky and Big Foot’s Big Buck Blend.
We developed this blend to work in the Southern Virginia and Northern North Carolina Piedmont Region. Typically, a 50# bag plants 1-1/2 acres, and we recommend 400 lbs of pellet lime and 200 lbs of 10-10-10 per acre The components differ depending on the time of year, a sample of each mix:
FALL
Typically plant mid-August through end of September for deer season

Any of the seeds you see listed above can be purchased individually, loose, in whatever poundage you would like or in a 50 lb bag. The turnip, kale and rape can be purchased loose, or in 1, 5 or 50 lb bags. Depending on quantity, we can also do a custom mix for you as well.
SPRING
Typically plant end of April through mid June

Clovers are also a popular seed to buy loose in any poundage you like. They types of clovers we stock: Annual Crimson, Medium Red Perennial, Ladino White Perennial and Durana White Perennial.
SUMMER
Typically plant early May to mid-summer for Dove hunting.
- Sunflowers, 1st of May
- Milos and Millets: depending on the type, 60-120 days before dove hunting season
- We can mix these, but, often customers prefer to plant these individually
